Will Bank of America Report Me Again
OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- You may have noticed it lately -- many banks closing branches, equally more customers banking company online, and fewer in person.

But for one Eastward Bay human being, it acquired a mild panic.
Bank of America close down his branch just hours later he made a huge deposit. His money disappeared, so he came to 7 On Your Side's Michael Finney to find it.

It'due south difficult to believe it could happen at a major banking company. This viewer deposited $33,000 through a teller at Depository financial institution of America in Oakland. Hours later the branch shut down. His deposit never posted. And everybody kept proverb, "Distressing, there'south null we can do."
It was similar a bad dream... except, it was existent.
"I'k starting to think I may not see the money ever," said Brian Leonard of Oakland. "'You're telling me that Bank of America lost $33,000 of my coin, and you lot're telling me correct here to my face, there's nothing you lot tin do?' 'That'due south correct, sir.'"
Leonard deposited $33,000 into his account at Bank of America. And then information technology disappeared.
"Nobody said, 'We'll find out where the money is, nosotros'll brand adept on it, nosotros'll take intendance of it...'" Leonard said.

It all began in Leonard'due south kitchen. "My married woman and I are in the midst of a big kitchen remodel," he explained.
Leonard had to pay the contractor, and needed to transfer $33,000 from his account at Wells Fargo to his account at Banking concern of America.
He brought a cashier's check directly to the teller at BofA so it would articulate right away.
"I deposited the cashier's check... she said it would post that afternoon or side by side morning at the latest," Leonard said.
However, when he checked his account the side by side day, the coin was not in that location. He called BofA -- and it was not good news.
"The woman said that there was no record of the transaction. So every bit far as she was concerned, no transaction happened," he said.
Leonard drove back to the depository financial institution, and got another surprise: BofA had shut downwards that branch, just hours later on he'd made his large deposit.

"When I realized the branch was closed, and the teller that took my $33,000 cashier'south check is nowhere to exist found, my eye sank into my tummy... I felt like I just saw the gunkhole leaving the dock and my money's on the boat," he said.
Leonard went to another branch, only to find the doors locked there too.
"It was closed permanently, so that's when I started getting very nervous; wait a 2nd, the branches are closing, the people I've had contact with... gone," he said.
He went to a tertiary branch. It was open -- merely the director didn't assist.
"He said, there'southward no record of the transaction. Then there was cipher he could do," Leonard said.

Leonard showed him the cashier's check and deposit receipt -- proof of the missing money. "I said, 'You're the manager, can you lot escalate the issue.' He says, 'No, there's nada I can do.'"
Leonard says everyone at BofA kept telling him that.
"Well, information technology was kind of, kind of kafkaesque," he said.
But in that location was something Leonard could practise. He contacted the depository financial institution's CEO, the federal authorities, and 7 On Your Side.
"And y'all know, that brawl started moving rapidly," said Leonard.
BofA tells us the problem arose because the cashier's check was made out to Bank of America, non Leonard, and information technology "delayed the process."

BofA didn't say why no one helped Leonard rails downward his money... until now.
"Within the course of a couple of hours, Depository financial institution of America contacted me, they said they're gonna give me $33,000. 7 On Your Side, human being, you guys were on it," Leonard said.

BofA did not comment on whether the shutdown of that branch may have caused a problem with the deposit, but says it's a temporary closure.
